Italian Footwear GEOX chooses Panama for CA Base

Geox chooses Panama The Italian footwear and garment company Geox has selected Panama as a base for its expansion in Central America and has already opened two stores in the capital city, according to the company's president, Mario Polegato. The company prides itself on research and innovation, and Polegato is known for having invented the technology for the “sole that breathes.” He got the idea during a trip to Nevada. Polegato went for a walk in the desert and his feet started heating up, so he decided to punctured holes in the soles of his shoes, which made him feel more comfortable. On returning to Italy he presented his invention to various companies, but none of them believed in it. So he set out on his own. Geox posted earnings of $193 million last year. The name comes from the Greek word geo, which means earth. The “x” is for technology.
